Tracereporters –CLEEN Foundation in collaboration with UNWOMEN, Women Mediation Network; Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Kaduna; Ministry of Women Affairs, Plateau with Support from the Norwegian Embassy has embarked on peace walk in commemoration of International Women’s Day in Kaduna & Plateau States.
The purpose of the Peace Walk is to raise awareness about issues affecting women globally and to promote gender equality.
Participants include women, men, HeForShe Network, media, peace structures, gender experts, advocates and practitioners from diverse backgrounds who support the empowerment of women and the promotion of peace and harmony in our community.
Prof Hauwa Evelyn Yusuf, Chairlady Kaduna State Women Mediation Network reiterated the need to invest in women to accelerate progress.
In her words the women mediators trained by UNwomen through CLEEN Foundation were equipped to make a significant difference in mediation, conflict resolution and peace building.
Prof Hauwa also emphasized the need to improve all security measures for rescue and safe return of our children abducted in Kuriga, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State, we implore government to hasten their rescue.
The Director Youth Development of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Kaduna State while receiving the women mediators expressed joy in the walk and the impact the women mediators are already making in their various locations in the state. The ministry also pledged continuous support for the mediators.
The mediators came up with slogans like “We want peace in Kaduna & Plateau States, Help bring our children back in Kaduna State, Recognize women mediators and the role they play in peace building”
Dr Rabi Salisu, Hon Commissioner for Human Services & Social Development, Kaduna State was ably represented By the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Dorcas Inti Benjamin.
State Chairladies of Women Mediation Network delivered statement on behalf of the platform. Prayers were offered for peace in Kaduna and Plateau States and rescue of our children abducted in Kuriga community, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State.
