Team Nigeria at the just concluded African Spelling Bee Competition in Kampala, Uganda.

Tracereporters –In a remarkable triumph, Praises Esere Minabowa, a talented speller in the 2023 Nigeria Spelling Bee competition, emerged as the Senior Champion at the prestigious African Spelling Bee Competition in Kampala, Uganda.

 

A statement by the Media Director of the organization, Mr Sam Otitolaye said Praises showcased exceptional spelling skills, securing a noteworthy $10,000 university scholarship endowment.

 

“The grand finale was held at Kampala City Hall on December 8, 2023, was a testament to the prowess of Team Nigeria. Notably, Team Nigeria achieved the remarkable status of the 2nd Best Country Team (joint), further solidifying their standing on the international stage.

 

“The accomplished members of Team Nigeria include Praises Esere Minabowa of DLHS Port Harcourt Campus, Rivers State (Senior Champion), Flourish Ajibola of St. Lawrence Metropolitan College, Ekiti State,
Esther John from Deeper Life High School (DLHS) Uyo campus, Akwa-Ibom State and
Stephanie Adegalu of DLHS Owerri Campus, Imo State.

Others are Praise Vincent from Charles Dale Int’l School, Port Harcourt, Rivers State and Elyon Uche-Ajunwa of DLHS Yenagoa Campus, Bayelsa State.

 

“These spellers, having initially emerged as champions in the 2023 Nigeria Spelling Bee Competition, proudly represented Nigeria at the African Spelling Bee, showcasing not only individual brilliance, but also the collective excellence of Team Nigeria.

 

“While the continental event is conducted by the African Spelling Bee Federation, the national contest in Nigeria is conducted by the Nigeria Spelling Bee, with the official endorsement of the Federal Ministry of Education and in partnership with the National Senior Secondary Education Commission.

 

“This is the 14th Title, Nigeria has won in the African Spelling Bee which started in 2016; these include multiple Senior and Junior Championships, Best Country Spelling Bee Team Prize and Runners-up positions.

 

“Let’s celebrate their extraordinary achievements, reinforcing Nigeria’s standing on the global spelling stage”, the statement concludes.
