Tracereporters –The gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna State, Rt. Hon. Isa Mohammed Ashiru had on Thursday, January 12, visited the troubled Birnin Gwari LGA in continuation of his consultation with religious and community leaders across the state.
Ashiru who arrived the area amidst cheers and rapturous welcome, assured the people of his desire to end the insecurity in the area within the first year of his adminstration, liaise with the federal government to rehabilitate the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari-Kontagora road, return subsidy on fertilizer, and create the enabling environment for small and medium scale enterprises to thrive, among other laudable programmes contained in his 5-point agenda for the state.
According to him, “Security is the primary responsibility of government and within our first one year in office, with the help of God, we will work with all of you to ensure that we put the current challenges in the security sector behind us,” Ashiru said.
“There’s nowhere in the world that serious governments don’t subsidise agriculture, so if given the opportunity, we will return subsidy on fertilizer and other farming inputs; we will also create an agency that will support small and medium scale enterprises; review the sack of workers in the state, especially the district and village heads, with the help of a review committee we will bring back those we can and pay all the others the entitlements due to them,” Ashiru assured.
Various speakers at the meeting lauded Ashiru and his entourage for being the only gubernatorial candidate to visit the troubled Local Government and thus assured him of their support for the PDP at all levels in the February and March general elections.
Ashiru also used the occasion to receive a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and two-term member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Hassan Adamu Shekarau, Jarman Birnin Gwari, and his supporters who dumped the APC to join the People’s Democratic Party in the LGA.
“Jarma is a very influential politician in this LG and the last man standing for the APC in Birnin Gwari. His defection to the PDP, therefore, marks the end of the APC in this LG,” said Hon. Sa’idu Adamu, a former Commissioner of Information in the State who hails from Birnin Gwari and also one among chieftains to have parted ways with the APC earlier on.
