By Lola Seriki- Idahosa, Trace Reporters –The 43rd Kaduna International Trade Fair has promised to partner with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), The Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), NEPC, NIWA, kaduna inland dry port and NPQS to promote blue economy in the state.
This was agreed at the business round table on blue economy, organised by KADCCIMA with NiMASA held at the Trade fair complex on 2nd march.
Alhaji Suleiman Aliyu, president of Kaduna Chambers of Commerce Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA) said the fair-themed: “Restrategising Nigeria’s Economy for Global Competitiveness’’ was chosen to commend government’s effort towards promoting agricultural and industrial development for the socio-economic transformation of the nation.
According to him, the blue economy is one of the things the state government will use to promote jobs and economic growth in the state.
KADCCIMA President described blue economy as the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihood and jobs as well as the preservation of the ocean ecosystem.
According to him, “The blue economy has diverse component, including established traditional ocean industries such as fisheries, tourism, and maritime transport.
“Also new and emerging activities such as offshore renewable energy, aquaculture, seabed extractive activities, and marine biotechnology and bio prospective.
“It is an economy based on circularity, collaboration, resilience, opportunity and interdependence,” he said.
Suleiman Aliyu added that the blue economy is not just about market opportunities, it also provides protection and development for more intangible ‘blue’ resources.
He further said that a blue economy provides efficient path to economy growth and development design to enhance livelihood for the poor, create employment opportunities and reduce poverty.
stated that the trade fair is expected to be moderate and impactful as different activities are being lined out.
Also speaking at the roundtable is the representative of NIMASA Engr. Francis Odukuye, deputy director shipping promoters NIMASA gave an overview of opportunities in blue Economy and NEXIM bank explained on how bank support Schemes to the non-oil Export.
