By Lola Seriki-Idahosa, Trace Reporters –National Higher Institution Convention of Muslim Students (NHICOMS) has appealed to kaduna state Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai to revisit and review the recent increase in tuition fees of tertiary institutions across kaduna state with a view to make it more affordable to the less privileged students.
This was contained in a Communique issued and signed by Mal. Muhammad Isah Mal. Auwalu Inusa Zonal Chairman after it’s 34th National Higher Institution Convention of Muslim Students (NHICOMS) brought together 145 registered participants from various institutions across the 19 northern states and Abuja, also leaders of the Society from Area Units and Area Councils, held at the kaduna polytechnic.
The theme for this year’s NHICOMS is: RAISING SECURITY CONSCIOUSNESS ON OUR CAMPUSES: THE ROLE OF MSSN.

The convention unanimously resolved that; all branches of the MSSN in Northern Nigeria are directed to set up security structures to partner with existing security outfits of their respective institutions,
According to The Communique, “MSSN A-Zone shall partner with security agencies to train her members basic self-defense techniques and the role that Muslim students could play towards ensuring effective security on campuses,
un-Islamic western secular ideologies, atheism being notable among them, is totally condemned. The MSSN accordingly urges all branches to re – intensify Da’awah activities in order to forestall the spread of ideologies that seek to undermine Islamic values.
“The MSSN A-Zone further appealed to the governor of Kaduna state, His Excellency Mal. Nasiru el-Rufa’i to revisit and review the recent increase in tuition fees of tertiary institutions across Kaduna state with a view to making it more affordable to the less privileged students, The MSSN A-Zone extended condolences to the families of members who lost their loved ones recently. The MSSN A-Zone particularly condoled with the Zonal Chairman, Bro. Muhammad Bin Isa who lost his father at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and the family Imam Dr. Mustapha Isa Qasim, Imam of Ahmadu Bello University and Islamic Trust of Nigeria Central Mosques, who passed away on at the end of the same month.
“The ethno- religious crises, protests, and kidnapping in our country have continue to increase every day, our campuses have become unsafe, secondary schools been attached among others Nigerian Government must buckle up and put all within it reach to secure our campuses schools and our society.
“Finally, the society enjoins Muslims Ummah to be ambassadors of Islam, promote peace, love and be God fearing.
The Keynote address was presented by Professor Muhammad Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), who was represented by Dr. Yusuf Yakubu Arrigasiyyu, director of Muslim League for Accountability (MULAC).
The presentation was discussed by Dr. Yakubu Haruna Ja’e.
Scholars from diverse disciplines presented and discussed topics which include “The Spread of Atheism on Our Campuses: MSSN as a Panacea”, Understanding the Concept of Fiqh Al-Awlawiyyat for National Development and Societal Reformation.
This year’s NHICOMS also featured paper presentation on topics of societal importance, debates by representatives of state Area Units, and higher institutions. This is aimed at teaching the participants research skills, public speaking, and writing, among others, in order to prepare them for future challenges.
Other activities were ta’alimats and trainings on self-defense techniques for personal protection, Marriage Guidance and Counselling session, zonal working committee meeting as well as lecture presentations.
After series of presentations, discussions, and deliberations, it was observed that;
there is monstrous insecurity ravaging our campuses, several state across the federation threatening the peace, unity and stability of our nation, cases of atheism ideology on the increase in our campuses targeting our brothers and sisters, kidnapping and banditry are on the increase in schools in the North,
the menace of ethno-religious crises, protest, kidnaping and killing innocent citizens has the potential of making Nigeria bloodier,
this generation of ours is seriously having setback in Adhakars and standing firm to Islamic jurisprudence,
the increment of tuition fees across Kaduna State Higher Institution is worrisome, and,
the killings, attacks and illegal occupation of Gaza by the Israeli forces is very alarming and calls for action on the part of Islamic nations.
