Adamawa: Hong Council Chair Commences the Distribution of 140,750 ITNs to Fight Malaria
Trace Reporters –To ensure Hong local government area is Malaria free, the Council has commenced the distribution of free treated mosquito nets to one hundred and forty-two thousand, seven hundred and fifty (142, 750) households which were kicked off in the Mijili community.
Speaking at the event the council Chairman Comrade James Pukuma charged communities in the local government to judiciously utilize the nets for the purpose intended so that the local government will be malaria-free.
He also called on the people irrespective of age to use the nets according to guidelines as malaria attack has no respect to age.
“Please do not sell or misuse them, do not tie Nets to your beds and stay outside thinking that’s the best way to use it, Malaria will attack you, and Malaria is a deadly disease”. He added
While thanking, Adamawa State Government and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Pukama pledge to give the necessary support for a hitch-free distribution exercise.
Earlier his welcome address, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hong local government, Alh Adamu Pella represented by Mrs. Esther Denham said the distribution which started today will be carried out from the house to house and will last for two weeks.
He said the mode of distribution differs from the previous exercise as Andriod phone will be used to determine the number of nets provided in each household and charged households to efficiently use the net.
In his remark, the Supervisory Councilor for Health Mr. Dogara David reminded communities that anyone found to misuse the nets will be dealt with, stressing that the free distribution is to protect people from malaria attack as some may not have means of buying it.
He stated that government intervention is to eradicate malaria in Africa.
In his goodwill message, the representative of the District Head of Gaya district reminded the people of the need to utilize the nets judiciously and not to sell them.
The highpoint of the event is a demonstration of how to use the nets by the Council Chairman Comrade James Pukuma.
