Gov Fintiri Flags Off Free ITNs Distribution, Enjoins Citizens to Make Sure Adamawa Is Malaria Free
Trace Reporters –Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa state has flagged off the distribution of free House to house insecticides Mosquitoes treated Nets (ITNs) for all the twenty one Local Government areas in the state.
The flag off ceremony took place in Government House Banquet hall where Ahmadu enjoined the people of the state to make good use of the ITNs to ensure a free Adamawa Malaria state.
According to him the State Government with the support of the Global Fund Malaria Grant will commence the distribution of over 2.8m nets to the people of Adamawa on a door-to-door basis across the 226 wards in the State.
He worried that the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), malaria is one of the leading causes of maternal and child deaths in the country. However, malaria is preventable and totally curable.
Fintiri said Malaria disease have overburdens the already weakened Health System and exerts a severe social and economic burden on the nation, retarding the gross domestic product (GDP) by 40% annually and costing approximately 480 Billion naira in out-of-pocket expenditures, and loss of man hours.
“As one of the national strategies to reduce the burden of Malaria in the Country and our dear State, the Government of Adamawa State in partnership with the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Federal Ministry of Health through the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), with funding support from the Global Fund Malaria Grant, and other stakeholders in the fight against Malaria have intensified efforts to increase access to Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs), which are durable and cost effective.” Ahmadu said
Earlier in his own speech, Professor Abdullahi Isah, Commissioner , Ministry of Health and Human services appreciate the support of Catholic relief Services (CRS) who in partnership with the Adamawa government to fight the Malaria pandemic.
Representatives of CRS,Paul Townsend,who is represented by Solomon Dadean thanked the executive Governor of Adamawa for giving them the needed support to fight the Malaria scourge.
