Tracereporters.com –The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Women Committee, Kaduna State Council has urged women to participate in trade women unionism, saying that the Committee is constrained by centuries of planning, marginalization and need resurrection.

 In a one day Leadership Workshop for WOMEN with theme: ‘Need for Women participation in trade unions in the pursuance of meeting the global demand”

The workshop which is aimed at creating awareness for women to raise social consciousness of women about their rights as well as political and economic responsibility, has its membership of fourty-eight (48) committee from different organizations.
In a paper presented by Comrade Esther Timothy Cookey, Head of Department Education/ State Secretary Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE) at the one day workshop held today at the Nurses Secretariat, kaduna.
Comrade Cookey said the workshop will create better understanding and resolution of their problems through collective bargains.
According to her, “this will enlighten women on opportunities and facilities available to them at workplaces and in the unions”
“To ensure inclusion on the policy interventions that bring them with their male counterparts, equal pay for equal job done”.
“Though women are very strong numerically in most work places but they are constrained by centuries of planning, marginal roles the final result therefore does not reflect the reality of the tremendous and potential roles of women.
She therefore ask for an unequal treatment and enablement to keep the union together.
In his opening remarks, the NLC State Chairman, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman Magaji said NLC takes gender issues very seriously and challenge the women committee to take the human right issues of every woman very serious.
He said that NLC will involve all the women by 2020 during it’s reorganisation.
According to him, “women should not just be talking but working the talking, we can equally do it better,  the issue of Human Rights issues should be taken seriously, as council, you have to do alot”
The NLC Chairperson said,  “We are going to start reorganizing the Union by 2020 and we will involve all the women committee”.
Earlier in her address, the Special Guest of honor, Special Adviser to Governor El-Rufai, on Community Relation,  Mrs. Stella Amako charge women not to relent in their various committee.
The Special Adviser urged the women to educate other women to know their right,  adding that the committee is a training ground for them to move to a higher level.
Also speaking is the state chairperson of the women wing of NLC, Mrs. Martha Haruna Banki, said the workshop will make women to have boldness in taking decision.
She however urged them to initiate activities and plead with the unemployed women in the state to find something doing.
