–The Social Democratic Party in an action filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja by the Party & it’s elected National Officers on behalf of themselves & the Party have kicked against the alleged illegal ploy to take over the Party without an election & without the expiration of the tenure of elected officers. Elected National Officers of the Party led by Chief Supo Shonibare, the Acting National Chairman, together with other officers including the National Vice- Chairman, National Secretary, among other Plaintiffs who are members of the National Executive, have sought to obtain reliefs to prevent those who they claim were never elected, led by Professor Tunde Adeniran, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, Mr Emeka Atuma & Professor Rufai Alkali( all members of PDP who allegedly joined the Party in 2018), among other defendants joined, from parading themselves as parallel National Executive members & Officers of the Party.

In an action filed by their Counsel, Tani Molajo Esq, S.A.N, leading 3 other lawyers, the Plaintiffs claim that most of the Defendants had been suspended by the Party in February 2019, pending a recommendation for their expulsion at the next National Convention of the Party in 2020.

The Plaintiffs are also asking the Court to make declarations on the proper interpretation of the Party’s constitution claiming that the Defendants were never elected which action is both contrary to the provisions in the SDP constitution for eligibility to occupy party positions & the Electoral Act. Case has now been fixed for hearing in January 2020.
