To mark this year World clean up day 2018, Climate NGO has sensitised 50 scavengers and communities ways to reduce dirtiness to avert diseases outbreak in the environment;
The assistant director of a Non –governmental organization African Climate reporters Dr Piman Hoffman has stressed the importance of cleaning the environment as means of prevent societal challenges .
According to him an unclean environment leads to a bad condition of a society,which lead to the arrival of notorious diseases ,flood & disaster, climate change ,and environmental degradation.
Hoffman stated this during his interaction with some scavengers when he toke a campaign to some communities which is aimed at raising more awareness to citizens on how to be a community volunteers ,so as to help state and federal Government, NGOs/CSO organization against all forms of diseases related to the environment.
He said World Cleanup Day (also known as WCD) is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem, including the problem of marine debris, plastic bags and bottles that are disturbing Human, animals and even the aquatic lives,
Hoffman says ,they are taking the Campaign to destitute homes,orphanages,and schools of Almajiris in other to educate more childrens on the importance of cleaning their environment,so as to enables them be acquainted on various ways to depend and protect their communities against any kind of environmental challenges
The annual global event, which already has close to 250 million people taking part today , focuses on connecting and empowering citizens to clean up their countries ,and also to show commitment in reducing all forms of pollution ,environmental challenges that could be a threat to Human,and lives of animals in the society
World Cleanup Day 2018 is observed in 150 countries and the Day is part of the worldwide initiative Let’s Do It! World and its usually been celebrated every 15th of September annually.
He pointed out that effective cleaning should be an important part of a greater plan to create
Healthier indoor environments by eliminating the contaminants that can make people sick. Lack of hygiene and cleanliness is an open invitation to infectious diseases
Hoffman Note that sensitising scavengers and community youth organisation will help a lot in reducing dirt on the street,homes,stadium,markets,schools,
“on a day like this, volunteers worldwide will come together to rid our planet of trash – cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from beaches, rivers, forests, and streets, and our joy is to see that every one living in both rural and urban city of Nigeria takes part of this year events”
He further says, they will also extend the sensitization campaign of the global events to environmental NGO and CSO with other environmental organization,and stake holders ,so as to support in spreading the messages across all the 36 states of Nigeria.
Adding that “ they will unite community groups, schools, markets women ,business organization,football clubs,terciary students to carry out activities that address local environmental issues todays.
The climate expert says the Importance of cleanliness in our lives cannot be denied. Maintaining a clean environment is for the health of all humans, as their health completely depends on the atmosphere. A bad environment is solely responsible for spoiling the health of the people around.
Musa Sani is one of the scavenger in kaduna, who expressed happiness for sensitising them ,adding that no one has ever visited them to talk to them about the health hazard of the business they are doing.
He said, he makes over 1000 naira daily from collecting Trash,and that this business is helping him a lot
African climate reporters and network of environmental organization suggested that “there is need for citizens to maintain the cleanliness of their bodies, homes buildings, surroundings and environment to have good health”
